Description

Creatures that spend their lives in hiding, pretending to be treasure chests. In fact the chest is their lower body, with a clam like shell lid. Its top half hides inside this shell until it smells nearby prey. In past times, the Mimic's upper body resembled an octopus, with many tentacles and one eye on a stalk.

However, since the mass mutation, they have developed and evolved, and with evolution came new attack strategies, as well as a new look. Their lower bodies still resemble a chest, yet inside the monster now more resembles the upper torso of a human, with a avian like head. Its back is covered with long poisonous quills which it uses as a weapon.

When they sense prey nearby, they will flip open their lids, and use a crudely made bow to fire their quills off at whatever they are hunting, hoping the poison will kill the prey in one shot so they can slowly drag themselves over to the prey to pull them inside the chest for eating. Prey as large as a human can fit inside, and can take days to fully digest.

Combat Strategy

Their one true weakness is their speed. Having no legs means it has to drag itself along to get anywhere. Smart adventurers will play dead if the arrow misses, and wait until the Mimic gets close enough to launch an attack on the upper torso. Also a handy note is the Mimic isn’t immune to its own poison.
