Gratchlier
From Damasca
Contents |
Description
A basilisk-sized, orange crab-like creature that inhabits many of the desolate beaches found across Damasca. It dwells in an abandoned cave if it can find one large enough , and is capable of living underwater if it can't. It has eight legs, two of which are positioned perfectly for grasping and tearing. One has a great claw with razor-sharp edges able to slice through cold iron, steel, and even thinly-plated mythril. The other 'leg' holds a stinger that can pierce the strongest tilkil, complete with a nasty neurotoxin. This poison doesn't kill immediately, but paralyzes the victim, giving the creature a chance to eat its prey while it's still warm. The victim remains fully conscious, yet unable to make the slightest movement in self-defense. After a short time, the poison will wear off, giving the victim a chance to run should they remain able to do so. To finish its impressive arsenal, the Gratchlier has a fan-tail, capable of propelling the creature along at great speeds beneath the waves. On land, its tail is used to fling sand and buffeting winds at attackers. There have been no reports to date of any freshwater Gratchlier. The shells of these crustaceans can be harvested and used in the manufacture of special armor, equal to steel-plate and providing the wearer partial immunity to water-based attacks.
